Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway: Key facts, route, cost & latest updates

The 20.6-km-long Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway is one of the major developments undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India under the National Highways Development Project-Phase VII. Presently, the bidding process of the project has concluded, and the scheduled date of completion has been set for December 2024. Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway: Project details

  • The project was officially launched in 2008, and the foundation stone for it was laid the next year.
  • The expressway will connect Chennai Port (formerly known as Madras Port) to Maduravoyal in West Chennai.
  • The Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway is going to be the longest six-lane elevated expressway in India.
  • The Maduravoyal part of the expressway will link the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway to facilitate interstate goods transportation.
  • It is also expected to aid seamless movement of cargo to and from Chennai Port.

Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway: Route

The Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Expressway begins from Gate Number 10 of the Chennai Port near Victory War Memorial and terminates before the Maduravoyal Interchange. It will run along the banks of the River Cooum till Koyambedu and join Poonamallee High Road after that. The expressway will have entry ramps at Sivananda Salai and College Road, along with exit ramps at Kamarajar Salai and Spur Tank Road. To end with, the Maduravoyal part of the stretch connects the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway or NE-7.
